Samoan Chief Lapa Potoi Tofilau, Red Cross Coordinator for the South Pacific Games is one dedicated man. He is coordinating a team of over 300 young men and women volunteers providing first aid services at all the 22 sports venues for the South Pacific Games.
The first day of the Games was pretty intensive for Tofilau, getting into the swing of feeding, transporting and assisting his volunteers at each of the sporting venues, but it has been smooth sailing ever since.
Tofilau is thankful to Pro-Com for providing a pager and a wireless communications system that enabled staying connected with his team at all venues. The efficient network amongst the doctors, the physiotherapists and the Red Cross has also been working very well.
The Red Cross volunteers have all worked very hard for the past seven months, training in the field of medical assistance and becoming experts in first aid services. The team are all eager to help the injured and Tofilau says they’ve been needed at several of the sporting events.
“I’m pleased to say there have been no major injuries so far. There has been lots of sideline and courtside assistance from our team, and I’ve been very proud of the way they’ve reacted to various situations,” says Tofilau.
