It is the aim of the South Pacific Organising Committee that the Athletes’ Village is a true home away from home for the athletes competing in the XIII South Pacific Games.
Located across two sites - the grounds of the National University of Samoa and adjoining Polytech at Vaivase Village, and several colleges at nearby Malifa Village, the Athletes’ Village is very close to all of the major Games venues and the centre of Apia.
For the period of the Athletes’ Village operation (22 August – 10 September), residents will be offered good quality low-rise housing and dormitory style accommodations, within an environment that is clean, comfortable and safe.
Opening and Closing Dates
The SPGOC will open the Athletes’ Village on the morning of Wednesday 22 August 2007, with the Village closing on the evening of Monday 10 September 2007.
Per Diems
PGAs are reminded that under Protocol 9.1 of the PGC Charter, a USD $50 per person per day charge will be levied at the DRM based on final team numbers.
PGA Team members who wish to stay outside the Athletes’ Village may either:
• Pay the per diem and still have full access to the Village (including Dining); or
• Pay 50% of the per diem and lose access to the Village (except via Day Pass).
Services
Bed Numbers per PGA
As per Regulation 12.1 of the PGC Charter, SPGOC will provide beds to PGAs in accordance with their athlete numbers and the allowable quota of team officials.
SPGOC will also work closely with each PGA to determine the maximum numbers of beds actually required on each PGA’s peak evening in the Village given each team’s confirmed travel schedule in and out of Apia.
Team Units
SPGOC will provide each PGA with its own dedicated accommodation area within the Athletes’ Village, which will also include office space for the Chef de Mission and a medical treatment area.
Towels
PGA delegations are advised to bring their own towels as these will not be supplied in the Athletes’ Village.
Dining Services
Dining facilities will operate at both the Vaivase and Malifa villages.
There will be three sittings per day, for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The hours for these services will be confirmed.
SPGOC has employed the services of nutritionists to ensure that a culturally diverse menu is prepared that meets the dietary requirements of the athletes.
Housekeeping Services
Athletes’ Village accommodation will be cleaned regularly and bed sheets will be changed every third day.
Laundry Services
SPGOC will contract a number of Laundromats in the vicinity of the Athletes’ Village for the exclusive use of Village residents.
Village residents will be responsible for doing their own laundry at these Laundromats.
Laundromat locations and operating times will be detailed in the Chefs de Mission Manual.
Entertainment
SPGOC will provide a range of entertainment and relaxation services for the athletes, and these services will be confirmed at a later date.
Security
The Samoan Police Service will be responsible for security for the 2007 South Pacific Games. There will be a noticeable police presence at competition venues, at cultural event areas in the Public Domain, and in the Athletes’ Village.
The security arrangements for the Athletes’ Village will involve:
• Security Fencing
• Access Control Points manned by Samoan Police officers 24 hours per day
• Access provided only to accredited persons and those visitors on pre-arranged Day Passes.
• Thorough searches of all accredited persons, approved visitors and delivery vehicles entering the Athletes’ Village.
Security arrangements at competition venues will vary from venue to venue and will include a mixture of secure perimeters, access control, external lighting and internal and external patrols by Samoan Police.
