Shopping

The market for fruits and vegetables and all manner of local delicacies is the Maketi Fou at Fugalei. It is particularly diverse on weekends, when villagers from rural Upolu and Savai’i arrive to sell their goods. A fish market is behind the flea market on Beach Road. Early Sunday mornings are the best day for buying fresh fish. A wide range of handicrafts, wooden kava bowls, traditional weapons, flax bags and fans in all shapes and sizes can be found in gift and hotel shops. Shop around as prices can vary from one store to the next. Both the Fugalei and Savalalo markets are good, but don’t hesitiate to shop around for the best prices or even haggle a little.
