Designed by local artist Papalii Momoe von Reiche, the games logo depicts a Victorious Athlete astride the waves of the Pacific Ocean.
Logo interpretation:
This logo is an abstract depiction of a winning athlete reaching skywards in a moment of exultation, in any of the 33 sports being contested. It reflects elation, destiny and the fruits of physical struggle and endeavour that lift the human spirit. A moment that only the victorious few experience.
COLOURS The colours used in this design are basic to our Pacific environment- our land, ocean and sky.
RED: The topmost part of the design represents the head of the figure. The red orb depicts the sun, which is the life giving force for all Pacific islanders. It also relates to the highest level of achievement an athlete can aspire too. It is the ultimate goal in any form of challenge be it physical, emotional, intellectual or spiritual.
YELLOW: The yellow crescent of the reaching arms depicts the effervescence of Pacific Youth, reaching forward and upwards into the future. These are the new changes and challenges of the new technological millennium, be it in sports, business or education.
GREEN: The green triangle or the athletes body depicts the sanctity of our environment and traditions. No matter how far we strive and succeed, as athletes and sportspeople, it is the support of our families and the bonds of our Pacific traditions, that anchor our values and keep our Pacific way of life uncomplicated. On another level, it represents the ideas of environmental sustainability, security and health, good sportsmanship and fairness in competition.
BLUE: The blue represents the Pacific Ocean and skyline on which the athletic figure stands. The colour denotes peace and inter-linkage between island nations and the world at large. The ocean itself is all-encompassing like a mother that cradles and nurtures all the participating countries in the spirit of peace, love, joy and well-being-(Alofa, aroha, aloha, ‘ofa)
This design is original and is based on the premise of being simple, dynamic and contemporary.
